I like Markers

Here are some 'marker renderings' that I completed
for school assignments a few years ago.

Hot Rod Marker

This first job was to draw a car... as you could probably tell.

This one was chosen to be on 'The Year's Best' poster, they put it right in the center, that was pretty sweet.

Prismacolor markers, white gel pen for some of the white highlights, and a little colored pencil work to bring out some of the reflections a little better.

This one here is of Hunter S. Thompson, obviously.
I was a little shocked when my teacher didn't know who he was...

H.S.T. markerThe requirements for this job stated that there must be space for two full paragraphs of text, while 50% of the whole spread was to be taken up by a face, and had to include a heading and subheading.

This one was fun, I liked trying to
imitate Ralph Steadman's ink splatters
with the markers.

Oranges For this, I was only bound by three rules.

There had to be:

-Food
-A Chrome/Metallic surface and,
-Glass

The idea behind these 'marker renderings' was to be able
to provide a client with a colorful sketch of the image(s) in
mocked-up concepts in a short amount of time...

So- all of these were done on a restricted time limit.
I did some practice first, before I started the drawings so that I had some sort of
a sense of how to get a believable effect on some of the more difficult
surfaces, but once I started the finished piece I was on clock-watching duty.

Say 'hi', Sly!

So... this is my first blog post.
Yes... Ever... So forgive me, for I am sure to slip on this.

Okay, so I have the face on the book, which I don't use, and one of those Tumblr things (http://slythemongoose.tumblr.com/) , but there's so much garbage to sift through on there, and it really just doesn't feel good to me to use... I have a Flickr (http://www.flickr.com/photos/sly_the_mongoose/) that I haven't used in months, probably over a year... so I don't use them, for one reason or another, the idea of them became boring for me.

Anyhoo, here's the reason for all of this nonsense. Recently I upgraded from a 'stoopid phone' to a 'smart phone' *oooohahhhh... whatever... but just about the only good thing(s) about that is that it has a pretty nice camera on it, and I could get an Instagram(@slythemongoose). While that may sound weird to start off with, hear me out.

I found a few visual artists on this app, who use it fairly regularly, and had some really cool inspiring stuff... then I started finding more and more cool people, who probably don't even consider themselves artists, calligraphers, crafters, photographers, etc... I was inspired by all of these 'normal' people, who were just like me... To make a long story short - I realized that most of the stuff that I do just to entertain myself, could (with a little more energy and attention added into it) possible turn into something that people might like... I sort of realized that I was being selfish... I should share more of these things with a greater audience... and that there's not a mountain of difference between your favorite illustrator, artist, etc. and yourself.

So in an attempt to share more about what's going down 'round here, I created this blog page... It gives me more room to rant, and a lot of the people and 'artists' that I have found on Instagram have a blog here as well, so it's sort of convenient for me in a number of ways to make this blog... besides that - images look so much better on a screen that's larger than an android :/

What is to come in the future:
- I will be uploading some of my artwork, some doodles, and other miscellaneous nonsense (I've been pretty deep into learning calligraphy recently, so- I'm sorry in advance if there is an abundance of that soon :/)
- Also, I will be delving into the experimentation(s) I have undertaken recently, as well as the process(es)
- I will do my best to make a post regularly with new material(s)... We'll see how well I do with that (haha)

... this will probably bore most, and if so - please, feel free to tell me that... express yourself... but also, if any thoughts come to mind from anything I post here, or if there is something that you like, and would like to see more of, or have criticism(s), comment(s), critique(s), anything - all is welcome here, but try not to be too inappropriate... there may be kids looking... not our fault, but still ;) just try... but not too hard...

This is all for now... until later ;)
